Solugen, Inc. is a revolutionary technology company seeking to use biology to transform the chemicals industry. Located in Houston, Texas, Solugen is currently scaling up its manufacturing facility to use its chemienzymatic process to manufacture biobased chemistries for water treatment, agriculture, and personal care. Solugen now has 105+ full-time employees.

Mission

Solugen's mission is to decarbonize chemicals manufacturing. As a first step, Solugen is building a 10,000 tpy first commercial plant with the potential to offset up to 37,000 tpy of carbon dioxide equivalents.

Reporting to the Vice President of Safety, Health, & Environment, this individual will be responsible for implementing and overseeing Solugen's HSE management system and ensure compliance with federal regulatory requirements applicable to Solugen. In addition, as a startup company, this individual must find, vet, and manage a host of area-specific vendors to keep Solugen compliant and safe.

This position will be in Slaton, Texas.

Key Outcomes

  • Support the Slaton Operations team with plant expansion activities
  • Perform auditing and oversight of our Process Safety Systems. Including gathering, analyzing, and reporting on process safety data trends or themes and developing recommendations for improvement. This includes completing the development and issuance of Weekly, Monthly, and Quarterly PSM reports.
  • The individual will need to create and modify the EH&S management system for Solugen (work processes, standard operating procedures) quarterly with an implementation plan that includes training.
  • The candidate must demonstrate knowledge and compliance according to OSHA to facilitate the day-to-day work safety environment. This will also include supporting EHS initiatives and objectives to inform the parties involved in changes and legal requirements according to government laws. (e.g. 5S, Safety Observations, Audits)
  • Leading or participating in serious EHS incident investigations and ensuring appropriate communication and tracking items to closure; after completion of this task, the employee must facilitate and conduct training events, EH&S activities, process improvements, visual controls, and other programs as needed.

Qualification

  • A minimum of 5 years of PSM-related experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Manufacturing and Engineering or Environmental, Health & Safety Industry experience is required.
  • Certified Safety Professional and Certified Safety & Health Official certification designation
  • Experience and familiarity with regulations governing the storage, movement, and disposal of dangerous goods (49 CFR, RCRA, PHMSA, CFR, IMDG, and IATA).
  • Experience in the design and implementation of risk assessment strategies, tools, and systems
  • Experience in the development of EHS protocols, tools, and systems, with a wide range of risk assessment methods, engineering control design, and implementation experience
